Guarded by a clan of porcelain roosters and the amazing lip-lickin' scent of ribs and fried chicken is this little sit down or take-out joint that you should visit. The menu has a wide variety of American staples and even a few things only found during the great American get together (pizza burger for one). Come in and enjoy a fabulous coney dog and mingle with the sweet ladies that are working hard to provide the service of making you satisfied in your stomach and in your wallet.

How can you not love this place? The world would be a better place with more local, friendly-staffed, lip-smackin' good chicken joints!

I've tried several things here. The chicken is awesome. The breading is light and even a little sweet, at least to me. Had another one of the sandwiches and wasn't too impressed. The chicken, biscuits and coleslaw are the best things! I have brought visiting family and friends and they all love it. The staff is very friendly too. Very enjoyable to visit.

Skip the sides and go straight for the chicken.... Juicy and crispy with great seasonings.

Awesomely classic. Chicken is fried to order, so you will have about a 15-20 minutes wait and it is WORTH IT. Super moist with a crispy, light breading. The potato wedges also have a very nice light and crispy breading, I believe those are fried to order as well. The pulled pork is melt-in-your-mouth-good. Some pulled pork can rely heavily on fatty pieces of meat to make it flavorful but this stuff had less fatty pieces and more flavor than many sandwiches I've tried. The BBQ sauce is made in house and is right up there with the best.

They have some great Chicken at the coop. Which is easily five stars. I'd give a two negative stars for the sides which leave alot to be desired. Hawaiian roles, powdered potatoes(I assume by taste.) and frozen fries. Don't get me wrong I love the coup, the staff, and the great prices. But with homemade biscuits, and fresh mash potatoes, this place would be hands down the best chicken place in the Saint Paul area.

Since childhood, I've tried to decide what I like better: bacon or fried chicken. On most days I'll side with erstwhile oink flesh, but a visit to The Coop turns me around, if only just for a day. The fare isn't gourmet by any means; the chicken's fried, the sticks are mozzarella, the door is a screen door that slams shut behind you much to your embarrassment. For a chicken place, you'll find a surprising variety of appetizers, main dishes and desserts. Definitely order the french fries; they might possibly be the best I've ever had. The food is served fresh; just because it's fried doesn't mean they make it ahead of time and let it sit around getting stale. No, they make it at the time you order it and when you can't finish it all, they wrap it up so you can take it home. There are ceramic and plastic inanimate chickens everywhere you look. It's kind of like a nightmare or a Stephen King novel that feeds you before you wet yourself out of fear of the macabre. I mean this in the nicest way possible. Whoever decorated The Coop probably intended to affect a homespun, small town ambiance and the army of chickens just kind of got out of hand. But I like the army of chickens, if only because they scare me so. Oh, forgot to mention: THEY HAVE RIBS. Yeah, you're welcome.

This was the best chicken I've ever had...next to the fried chicken that's come out of my own kitchen! The owners/cooks are really friendly. As an out of towner I was a little skeptical about eating fried chicken, but it was delicious and juicy and fried to perfection! You gotta visit this place if you in the Minneapolis/st. Paul area, hands down!

The Coop is a nice little local hidden gem. They make great chicken and the ribs are pretty tasty too. If I'm in the mood for a bucket of chicken and have someone to share with this is where I'll go. They do it as good as anywhere I've been. Unfortunately I usually will end up making chicken myself or grabbing one at the grocery store so I don't make it here as often as I should but it is a nice place to have in the neighborhood.

Well kept secret in South St. Paul. Delicious broasted chicken, crispy and juicy-cooked fresh when you order it. Cole Slaw is pretty good too. I've had much better mashed potatoes and would pass on those next time.

Oh, man... this place is awesome. It's sort of a hole in the wall, but who cares... they sell delicious fried chicken at a low price. It's always seasoned perfectly and the skin is always crispy. It even remains crispy when it cools off. Their sides are pretty good, too... we love the potato wedges and the cole slaw is the tasty, creamy variety you'd expect with your fried chicken. They make everything fresh so you always get piping hot, great quality food. You've got to give this place a shot if you haven't already.

I went there with my kids and I felt like everything was store bought there was nothing original the mashed potatoes were from a box. Save your self some money go to KFC

After hearing so many good things about the wings at this place, I finally decided to try them out. Could not be more disappointed. Small, bland, and expensive are the three words I would use to describe the wings at this restaurant. Wings are dry, breading is bland and disgusting, and I waited over a half hour for an order of 12. I have gotten far superior wings at local Chinese and Asian restaurants. 1/10, would not recommend.

This, ladies and gentleman, is The Coop Scoop. First of all, I've been banging my head against the wall trying to decide if this is a 3 star or a 4 star. They broke a rule. A very important rule. A rule no one should ever break. A very simple rule. The skin. The flippin' chicken skin. Okay, you're probably sitting there like "Get on with it already. What's the rule?" The RULE is that if you're going to leave skin on a piece of chicken then you have to make damn sure that it gets crispy. No one, and I mean NO ONE (Well, maybe someone) likes flaccid soggy chicken skin. It's squishy, it's slimy, it's lumpy and really it tastes like crap. Now, since this review is being written out of passion for crispy chicken skin, let me just say that every other time we have ordered here it's been absolutely mouthwatering. We usually go for fried chicken in an effort to not have to cook our own because we're lazy or to not go to KFC because well, KFC is guaranteed to taste like slimy poo. The skin and breading is always crispy on the fried chicken. It always smells wonderful and when you get home with your box of various chicken parts, they aren't slathered in grease. The meat is always juicy and the price point is perfect. We we're feeling a little crazy last night and ordered the BBQ chicken. What I envisioned to be a smokey sticky chunk of chicken, slightly charred in all of it's saucy glory plastered across a hot juicy thigh... It's not what we got. I wasn't fully expecting there to be a skin on the chicken and skin would have been just fine if it wasn't the flaccid example I mentioned 4 paragraphs ago. The sauce was disappointing as well as it was more tangy than smokey and a sad unappetizing orange color. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really good, either. It looked like they just tossed the chicken in a bowl with some sauce and dished it up and maybe they did, but when I want BBQ chicken, I want the sauce cooked on. I want crisp. I want a full-bodied smokey, spicy and sticky messy hot goodness. I want everything this chicken wasn't. I want... a redo. Impress me, Coop. I know you have it in you.. It was a hard meal to get through and I could probably shed a tear thinking about the abuse of that chicken skin. But, you know what? The service here ALWAYS rocks my socks and they are still my go-to for a good piece of fried chicken. I just don't think I could choke down another piece of their orange soggy barbecued blasphemy. La fin.

What a nice find! Good food. Nice neighborhood restaurant. The kind of place where you get your money's worth. And you feel good about giving them your money. We were here for lunch, so we had sandwiches and dogs and such. But I'd love to come back for chicken and ribs. Cute kids meals with smiley face fries for $4.75 (drink not included.)

Everything is delicious!!! Only ding is that nothing is made in house and I was sad to hear that even the chicken batter is a premade and purchased product.

Great staff! Clean place! Good food! Delicious cookies! Went to try the chicken, but also enjoyed the onion rings, and loved the sugar cookie! Only a few tables to dine in, but most people just come in to get take-out.

Crinkle Cuts! This is where my addiction to crinkle cuts fries started when I was a lot younger! This was our go-to place for a treat while growing up. Now that I'm older, I haven't been in years. Growing up it was family bucket with the fries on top. On a recent Tuesday I decided we were going to get the 12 piece chicken only bucket to go. It was 3 wings, 3 breasts, 3 thighs, and 3 legs. I do not like thighs and legs, but he does, so it was perfect for us to share. I stopped in before my workout so I could pick up the food after my workout, so bad, I know....The food was ready when promised. I drove home just waiting to dig into that chicken. It was just like I remembered - juicy and delicious with that kick and salty taste! My dining companion had never had it before, but said it was better than the grocery store, but he prefers KFC. I do not. I think it's a good deal at $16 after tax for the 12 pieces of chicken, but can see it getting expensive. I think the quarter dinner is a better deal with fries, cole slaw, and a roll. I have many family members who enjoy the fish, the pizza burgers, and the appetizers. The chicken excellent, the service friendly, and the price right. I need to remember this place more often!

Coop :) this became the local eatery for my friends and I living temporarily in the grove. Some of the best apps - we would always get curds, Mac n cheese bites, mini corn dogs, and the occasional donuts :) BBQ pork sandwich is great, and the ribs and chicken are stellar! If you are near by, hot up Coop!

Gloomy Saturday seemed good for fried chicken. I just had the 2 piece dinner a thigh and a leg. Better start cutting into it as soon as it's delivered. It's hot, and stays hot. First and last bite were equally crisp. I'm thinking this is a lot like Countryside in Roseville. I asked the owner, Joel what they used for oil. Standard vegetable, but it's broasted. Bingo. Even this seasoned food snob, knows her fried chicken. I'm probably the only one to complain about this, but I wish you could get just an entree without the extras. Minimum starts at 8 pieces. This is mostly for catering and carryout. I ate in. Don't want the car smelling of fried food unless it's in volume. This is a great idea for graduations and other parties. Your chicken cravings will be satisfied here.
